You won't get more praise by forcing him to do it. Sobbing and creating a huge drama is a repellant and the only thing that will get you is singledom.
Work on your insecurity by yourself, don't rely on compliments from others to stave it off. Build up your confidence by doing things that make you proud of yourself. Then, as time goes by, you will receive compliments without even asking for them. Be your own source of validation.
