I agree with everything you've done regarding making your own decisions about your immediate family and I sincerely mean that as my wife did not take my name and I could not care less about that. But I can't think of any advice here for you. There are hills to die on, and whether they are worth dying on is subjective of course, and each side of this conflict seems to have chosen their hill.
