  1. How can he be a mediator here when he admits it’s only this bad because he’s bad at conflict and just buried his head in the sand like an ostrich and pretended the whole situation didn’t exist until it blows up in his face…? Again and again and again…

He actually has to get his head out of his ass and face the problem if he ever wants it to work. I don’t think he cares that much. It sounds like from his post it’s just easier for him to wring his hands and cry “woe is me”.

  2. Im kinda hoping he cheats on me so I can just get it over with haha, after these comments Im just looking for a good reason to break up lol

  3. It sounds like he is really immature. Grown adults should be able to participate in a conversation that is not pleasant.

Houses need maintenance, cars need maintenance… RELATIONSHIPS need maintenance. If he can't tolerate the normal upkeep conversations of life… then he isn't a good PARTNER.

I think you might be hoping he is a different person than he is. I recommend you BELIEVE him as he is showing you who he is by his behavior.

Pretending to sleep to avoid a conversation, shutting down over discussing bills, and getting angry about discussing boundaries with opposite sex friends… This guy is a dud.

  4. You should not move in with him (for a myriad of reasons) but especially since he's doing this bait-and-switch on you and pushing you around when it comes to rent.

There's a difference between equal and equitable. 'Equal' would be 50/50. But that would not be equitable relative to your respective incomes. He makes twice as much as you. Therefore his budget for rent is probably twice as much as yours.

Here's what you do: First, don't move in with him. You're only 20, you have a lot of adulting on your own you need to do. You also don't want to be financially dependent on him for anything because that can lead to financial abuse. Always be able to pay your own way.

But if you are dead set on making this mistake: Take your net annual take home pay (NOT gross, net) and figure out how much is about 30% of that take home pay. That is your annual rent budget. You cannot go over that number. “BF, I did the arithmetic and my rent budget is $X annually. So we'll have to keep that in mind when we look for a place.” And he should do the same calculation. With the total of those two numbers, that's the maximum you two can spend.

Now, if he gives you any shit AT ALL about this, that is a huge red flag. Do NOT get manipulated into spending more than you can afford.
