4. Presumably, this high-demand, high-stress job is one she has been aspiring to for some time. So be sure to celebrate her success, even if she's griping.

   There are branch points in life where you are forced to focus more on something. For instance, say a childless friend has twins. She is not going to be as available! Or say a friend's spouse becomes disabled or sick with a serious disease – old friendships will suffer, yet it's nobody's fault.

   You should not try to alter the current terms of the friendship, or you might break it completely. Do continue building other bridges though.
