But do not give in. You will be more miserable with them than on your own.
So, I think you need to decide how much you can contribute, if you want to, and start saving towards that. Cut back on other things, open an account just for the surgery and start putting some in there each paycheck. You don't have to tell anyone about it.

People who do this are purposely putting you in a loyalty bind. They're leveraging the relationship to further their own agenda. A “no thank you,” should suffice. If not, they're really not your friend.
High school sucks. There's absolutely no doubt about that. And as a social outcast, I can relate to feeling like everyone is drifting away and you're just stuck in the same place.
But you're not. And you get to keep developing. The end of high school is weird because you and your friends inevitably end up growing in different directions. This may be a good chance for you to spread your wings and find a new group to belong to.
