I have a brother in law who gets like this and shuts “uncomfortable” conversations down. He is boring and a control freak. When he chose to not come to a family member's funeral, because it was too uncomfortable for him, the whole family was done with him. It won't get better and you don't want to lose your depth and awareness to please him.
