It was late evening for me when I posted this. My response contained only 2 questions, one entirely rhetorical.
It is good to have a strong parent sometimes—both of these parents are strong in different ways. But his behavior seems to cross a bit into aggression and emotional distance from the kids, which is usually not super healthy and will likely lead to resentment as they get older. Even if you think his parenting style is fine and dandy, there are obviously a number of issues to be addressed within this family dynamic.
