Not much happened a year ago. We got a dog? He likes her though, and treats her well. I have asked him the same question repeatedly. He has had work issues in the last year (layoff, bad deal working with a friend) and money has been tight. That said, mortgage, car payment, general bills dog food, and basic groceries have all been paid, along with occasional treats (dinner out, ordering ice cream, such like that 1-2 times a month on average). It's tighter than it was, and we aren't saving anything, but we aren't dying here.

I do have compassion for my mom, and I get that there can be mixed feelings that come with living through SA. But my mom mentions all the time, since I was a teen, that she's going to be glad when my grandma is dead. My mom regularly asks for health updates or just wants to outright know if she's dead yet.

Take time to yourself! People sometimes take years just to become ready to date again just from a break-up, let alone the passing of your significant other (I’m sorry for you loss, also).
There’s no set amount of time to grieve and become ready to get back out there. I’d recommend just taking time and channeling into yourself. Learn about yourself again. Learn new things and new hobbies! It’s better to be “overly” ready than not ready. Besides, dating when you’re not really into it is just a waste of your time and somebody else’s.
