I guess I just don't quite get it. I fully realized at age 17-18 that I didn't want to go into debt, or to saddle my parents with helping me pay for a costly education. I went to a private school, but one that was famously low cost. I was VERY concerned with cost and talked to my parents about it, a lot, before making a final decision.
I realize not everyone is like me, but at the same time, the headlines have been continuously splashed with the ruinous dangers of student debt since well before the Obama administration nationalized student loans in 2010. I can't imagine anybody signing for debt without understanding the risk they are undertaking. At this point, how is anybody hoodwinked into taking on impossible debt?
I'm not really disagreeing with any specific point, though.
