What is the legal aspect if you don't have a will might be something to look at. My parents did this division and it still seems off as we are all my mothers children just the youngest is a half sister. But they chose this together.
I would consider a will that also sets out what to do if one person dies first. Because there is a strong chance that person will be the one to decide in end anyway. So is this a hill to die on, or one that can be settled later by that I mean 15 or so years time. I would consider that often money is used to pay medical bills and home care for the remaining spouse so honestly their may not be much left anyway. Consider your retirement planning as part of the financial planning would be wise.

See if your college library has any books on mindfulness, self reflection, self sufficiency etc. especially if you can find several written by different people from different walks of life. These types of books can help you to understand how you work as a person, and even suggest small steps you can take to help you achieve your goals in life.
