It’s hard to understand why a person would stay. He didn’t start out abusive. He was probably charming and pretty wonderful. Then he gradually separated her from all her support network. It’s insidious. We need therapy after escaping abuse. You can’t repair this. You can support her healing by supporting her getting help. She probably has PTSD even if she doesn’t recognize it. Be consistent. Be kind. Never raise your voice. Support and encourage her to seek therapy.
It's difficult for me to set that boundary because when things are good they're great and I really don't want to lose her. I'm trying to understand the underlying mechanism driving her to act this way.
I don't know what else I can do for her. I've literally asked her what she wants or what I can do differently to meet her expectations and I can't get a straight answer out of her.
