Because A) it could very well turn into mom blaming the kids for bringing it back, and B) dad would be making drop off so much messier. At least with the box method, they can just go “idk we gave it to him” when mom gets nosy. I never feel like going through all that nonsense is worth it. If you believe she's cheating on you, confront her and see how she reacts. If she somehow convinces you it isn't true then ok, but it doesn't look good. I wouldn't blame you to bring it up at the same time you break up with her.
