The first step is clarification. Why would she get defensive when you just clarify (not yet judging) what she wants and her thinking.
She wants you off Reddit is her solution. Why does she think that helps her? What are you (going) to do with that time that she thinks helps her? Ask follow up questions to understand her thinking.
Once you understand completely why this thinks something then you can address the issues. Ex. Maybe she equates that time to more talking with her? Maybe it’s really a request for more time doing that?
