  1. “I also need to make clear she has specifically asked me to not avoid touching her in public”

I had to read that twice after reading the whole story

  2. Well it’s like you say not everyone is the same. Just because he doesn’t praise you like a goddess doesn’t mean he isn’t strongly attracted to you. If you’d like more compliments talk to him about it. Good communication goes a long way.

  3. “I actually hadn’t invited anyone else! Would you prefer I did?” Or “It’ll just be us if you’re comfortable with that, if not I can invite x,y,z to come also!”

  4. You’ve never had your brain pull some shit on you, knowing it’s unrealistic, not the situation or against all logic?

Because that’s human nature, it’s completely normal. The fact is no one is in complete control of all the thoughts that run through our head. Not even you. There’s a term for this called intrusive thoughts, and is a completely normal thing to experience from time to time. What OP is describing is intrusive thinking to a T.

Have you ever tried mindful meditation, where the point is to try to clear your head and focus on breathing and being present in that space? It’s incredibly difficult at first because thoughts will randomly start to trickle in, even when you’re actively trying not to have them. Which sometimes makes it worse. It’s kinda along the same idea as having an intrusive thought.

“Intrusive thoughts, images, and urges are mental experiences that (i) are unpleasant or distressing, (ii) happen against one’s will, and (iii) do not align with your true feelings or values.”

Most people can brush them off.

What is healthy is being aware that said thoughts or feelings are not always based on, or an accurate reflection of reality, and not allow our emotions to run away with us based on these thoughts and cause us to react in an unreasonable manner. While we can’t always help the thoughts, we can control how we react to them, and how much power we give them to control our emotions/actions.

OP seems pretty mature for his age and I give him props for identifying that there’s an issue, isn’t comfortable with how he feels, doesn’t want to feel this way, and seems to want to change it. There’s people twice his age who would allow these unwanted feelings to affect their emotions and actions.

Perhaps a bit less judgement and a bit more empathy for others would be helpful in the future.
