You don't need this crap and you don't need him. He knows you are on a weight loss journey and will have seen the results and he still drops this shitbomb on you? Fuck that! Best case scenario is that he has unrealistic expectations about how healthy, long term weight loss works and is ignorant enough to think what he said would encourage you to step it up. Worst case scenario is that he's deliberately trying to squash any gains in confidence you are getting from your weight loss. Either way he needs to be gone.
I put on a lot of weight during lockdown. My SO was classed as high risk but also an essential worker who still had to travel the country and go into high risk areas/situations. I was providing end of life care for my MIL and couldn't see my own family for months, except when my stepdad died. I was exhausted, lonely, stressed, was infected myself twice and pretty ill both times and ended up grabbing whatever food was quick, easy and filling. My body took a battering as a result but despite all of this my mister still approached me like a starving man at a banquet. Now the weight is sloooowly coming off and he's just as passionate as he ever was. This is what you deserve and you shouldn't settle for less.
