Who made your boyfriend judge and jury? It’s not his place to involve himself in their relationship. If he can’t control himself, don’t go to dinner.
It is a severely crappy response from him. And there is probably no coming back from it.
He will be seeing it as you did not trust him to talk to him, and that if this latest issue hadn’t of happened, he still wouldn’t know, reinforcing the view he has that you didn’t trust him enough.
So now he is wondering if for your entire relationship if you have ever actually truly trusted him.
