I'm UK as well however to prescribe a certain medication in certain professions you have to be be mentored, show your research and be signed off as competent before being able to prescribe every single medication that requires one and usually that's only for meds those specially required in the specialty they work in and only for it's approved use (not off label as other professions can). Therefore you have to know what would is off label for each drug you are allowed to prescribe so you know not to!
Other professions are deemed competent (but responsible for their own reasoning) to prescribe off label if they decide its appropriate for that particular patient.
But I don't ever recall it being used as such in the UK but we tend to be fat more cautious compared to a few other countries about prescribing drugs that are most commonly addictive or prone to misuse.
But yes you're correct about it being most widely recognised as for withdrawal. But the OP did say her SO said he was a rare case and they'd tried a lot of different Meds that didn't work.

And yes I totally get you. (My dad later said I'd bought the widest fuse wire there is and could have burnt down my house and I just thought it would be better to get the fattest in the shop so it wouldnt blow again!) I don’t agree. If she has turned over a leaf it doesn’t matter what she did in the past, if anything it can just lead to the partner behaving differently or being more paranoid and that causes relationship breakdown when there was nothing going on.
If she hasn’t turned over a leaf then regardless what the boyfriend knows or doesn’t know, she will cheat.
There is nothing to gain here. You potentially irreparably damage your relationship with your sibling, you lead people to question your motives (do you fancy him and you want them to break up etc). I just think it’s really not worth getting involved

I agree. I don't think that this is a definite “Fuck that loser, leave” situation. But the problem with this one is if she does stay, will she really ever be able to move past this? I just told her about my best friend who decided to stay with her boyfriend after he cheated and she found out years later. She knows that she can trust him. I think so, too. She says that she understands, she forgives him. BUT. .. she throws it back in his face constantly. And that has honestly damaged their relationship more than what he actually did.
