I get it's expensive but you'd think you'd budget your rent since you're the one that lives there and what would you do if you hadn't invited them to visit?
While I do think it's appropriate for them to buy you dinner at least and bring a host's gift. Asking for rent seems rude. But again, this could be cultural- where I'm from it be rude, you don't charge people for inviting.
i think their rules are stupid, but if your girlfriend wants adult freedom she needs to pay her own bills. they are housing her, so they make the rules. i would tell your girlfriend though so she can decide if she’s ok with the rules or wants to become independent.
