It's possible she has tried to explain similar things in the past but perhaps can't clearly and now is tired of trying to explain. You are right she needs to make an effort, but maybe you can help along the way as well.
I would almost even try having a conversation with her asking if she feels ignored, and maybe if you have some examples of when she may have felt that way. Apologize and tell her you will work on listening better and this is something you want to improve. You can add that it will help you if she maybe even uses those words “I feel ignored” if she doesn't know how to express it.
