To be honest, you said exactly what you should have said to the one who is insecure about her sports. There is nothing else you could have said and she reacted like a brat. She should have been talking to her coach about her performance, not you.

That's a big range. More importantly, an LDR is a big commitment in itself, especially after just 3 months. You're trusting each other to stay away from the opposite sex with zero oversight. Zero accountability beyond promises over facechat, text, etc.
Honestly, if you are like 95% certain that you can trust him and trust yourself, AND if you're not okay with fast forwarding the seriousness of this relationship, I wouldn't do it.
