Tbh I start saving up in the Summer and aside from the occasional bite out to eat, I don’t spend my money on anything else. Hey OP. My company has two events a year that are basically big gatherings over the span of a few days. They operate pretty much the same way as your wife's company where they pay for rooms for people that want to stay. This isn't suspicious or strange at all. Team building and bonding are important, even more so in an age where a lot of people are working remotely. These gatherings are the only time I see my boss and other co-worker because we work on different coasts. You're not really going to have a lot of time to bond with your team if you're preoccupied with socializing with your spouse.
