My husband says stupid comments like this to me all the time. During the summer he saw some teenager (17-18 F) running stairs and he said to me, “you should come up here to run these stairs so you can look like her.” It’s just put downs. Nothing for them will ever be good enough. I notice they get worse the better I look- he knows other men have eyes as well I guess. Honestly, I thrive off his insults now. “Oh I can’t? Bet.”
Here's the thing though she doesn't dislike them she just doesn't want the responsibility of taking care of one we have had this conversation numerous times she likes animals she does. We'd just been a weekend in a friend's house and they have 2 dogs and 4 cats and she was fine. We almost got a dog this past summer and when I told her I wasn't ready to have another pet but if she wanted to get the dog and take care of it by herself that was fine she backed out because she didn't want to take care of the dog she wanted me to do it. From August to November she kept telling me that she wanted a big Orange cat and kept asking me to bring home a big Orange cat and I knew that she wasn't serious because she wouldn't come up to the shelter and pick out the cat herself. She wanted a cat that she could call her cat that I would take care of.
And it's not a question of who matters more we should be able to have a conversation and that's what she did not allow me she spent 6 months saying it was OK and then she changed her mind in a matter of minutes it felt like and we didn't get to have a conversation

Finally someone willing to bring up the elephant in the room. I 100% do not agree with how the groom and family have handled this, it is fucked up, but this is not a good way of mourning (why does it have to be public??) and the bride definitely needs to go to grief counseling.
You daughter needs to be taught a valuable lesson, that the world doesn’t revolve around her.
You’re enabling her behaviour and it’s time that she grow up and enter the real world. In your position i would give her an ultimatum: find a job and move out by age 34.
You can’t baby this full blown adult forever, she needs some tough love right now and not giving It to her is ultimately causing more harm to her and to your entire family.
Tell her to get off her ass and grow the hell up. And this is coming from someone significantly younger than she is.
