Not blaming her for my drinking. I turned to drinking after the whole situation of cheating. I apologize if it seemed like I blamed her for it which I do not. I 100% blame myself for that. Any actions that I do, is all from me, and refuse to blame someone else for my actions. For my drinking I have been working on it and have been getting help. It's just typical of immigrants from the Caribbean to be highly motivated. It's such a trope that comedy skits about 'Jamaicans with four jobs' used to be fodder for skit comedy shows. But it does sound like this guy is starting to make some of the right moves. Since you're going away to school you've really got nothing to lose by giving him a little more time to see if he follows through with this plans. If he was raised in a family where people aren't very ambitious it'll take him some time to adjust. It's obviously up to you as to whether you're willing to wait for him to get a foothold in life. However, if he actually does step up and change his ways he might turn out to be a good match for you.
