I agree it would've been a hell of a lot easier if he had just stated he needed time alone from the start. I think it was more of a “we both could've done better” situation, though.
I'm planning on talking it out with him the next time we talk on the phone, as I feel like it will be easier to express this concern that way, than now that he's still not feeling too well and needs his space.

Yes, a few months ago I opened up about it. It was a long calm conversation, seemed like everything went well. I just heard promises of change, but everything went back to the way it was. I havent brought it up since. Its hard because he gets defensive whenever i have something to say. Not sure how to bring it up in a good way.
