If his main concern were her safety he would have to address the safety issues. Watch your drinks. Have someone close you can go to if needed. Etc.
Yeah initially it was exciting to think about becoming close with his child, but I will probably not meet her for a while due to the distance and he thinks the mother will not let him see baby after he tells her about me. So it’s tough thinking I’ll kind of be on the sideline until that happens.

Honestly if you want to reach out just do it, it probably won’t amount to much but you’ll heal either way. There’s no rulebook for this crap, it all hurts. But definitely divorce this guy, you can’t raise a child safely with an angry alcoholic and your child deserves better.
Use what you feel to motivate you to do better and take care of yourself. If the thought of rejection because of your weight doesn’t motivate you to do something, then his rejection of you is no because of weight, but laziness. Just sayn
