This reads like my life story. He knows you’re uncomfortable about him spending time with her, yet continues to see her. He doesn’t tell you that he is because he doesn’t want to upset you. He wants to keep both of you in his life. It doesn’t get better from my experience, and if I had it to do all over again I woulda left at the first twinge of uneasiness
I'd say if he doesn't reply then that breaking up is on the table. Depends on a lot of things.

That being said your boyfriend isn't the brightest bulb in the box to have answered that way. Personally I don't answer “gotcha!” questions except to say my wife is prettiest/smartest/best.

Toxic relationships are often a two way street. And it’s always easy to demonize someone’s former partner, and write them off as “crazy” or unstable.
