I understand gender disappointment.
What I am saying is that there are a lot of posts where men get upset they don't get to pass their name onto an “heir”. This is one of them.
I've never said that OP will love someone less.
The thing is, a woman from his family in some distant past decided to start a tradition to “honor” a man from their family. OP wants to cling to this tradition because “culture”.
Has this culture always included browsing Reddit, for example, as something not frowned upon? Because every culture that was quite oppressive towards women started out without enjoying products of “western” progress.
1) Why can't OP start their own tradition to honor a woman? Or, better, honor every child as some whole, complete person without this need to pass a part of misogynistic culture towards children of one gender only.
2) For how long will OP be stuck in quite a misogynistic past with its traditions while, ironically, reaping the benefits of modern (western) world, Reddit included?
This is not a thing to discuss with Reddit.
Therapy, if available.
Oh, wait, was therapy a part of that culture as well? I doubt it.
I think she got what she deserved
