How far away is he? Do you attend the same college? If you're within an hour or two of each other, I would say there's nothing inherently wrong with trying to take another shot at it. I'd caution you to be careful because things tend to be rosy in retrospect, but you're both growing and learning so maybe 3rd time is the charm. If you on-line quite a ways from each other my advice would be to more or less let it go, try not talking to him for a bit until seeing other people goes better and you can just be friends with him.
