2. I wanna point out that this wasn’t just some get together, it was specifically the birthday of OP’s friend’s girlfriend. If she didn’t want this person there it’s not a matter of “just telling him she’ll be there and he can decide if he wants to go.” It’s his girlfriend’s birthday, he is a more important guest than OP.
