I see this a lot in disagreements between male and female partners. Men try to argue that the way they conveyed a message was fine because they didn’t raise their voice. Most women are more sensitive to tone of voice at any volume. Personally I don’t want to be spoken to in an angry or annoyed tone any more than I want to be yelled at. I think if you had acknowledged that it was at least in part because the battery was nearing the end of its life and prefaces your request that way she would have been more receptive. Like if you had said “the battery is old, so it tends to die more quickly, and until I can afford to replace it, I would prefer you keep the engine running if you need to draw power for any reason.” That acknowledges that it isn’t really her fault, but is more of a request for her help in preventing the situation in the future. Which feels much better than being blamed. And also to be fair to her she didn’t know how long your interview would take or how long your battery would last drawing power with the engine off. Did you know? If you had you could/should have given her the heads up ahead of time. If you didn’t know, than it’s a mistake you could have made just as easily. She also was probably trying not to waste gas, since it’s so expensive. If the battery hadn’t died, she would have made the preferable choice because it wasn’t using gasoline for two extra hours and wasn’t polluting the air for two extra hours.
I would if I could, my dad and mom works but we come from a poor family and what they earn from their job it’s not enough to keep electricity, my two younger sisters school tuition, clothes etc
