  1. Bullet dodged, your ex sounds controlling and unreasonable. I know it's naked now, but in the scheme of your life, this will be something to be celebrated.

  2. DO NOT GO BACK TO THAT WOMAN! Are you crazy? Make and take as much time as possible with your son, but do not let yourself continue to be held hostage by this woman! She’s gotten used to being able to lay around and do nothing, and only wants to continue that lifestyle. You may have to find a way to remove your son from her using the child against you! That is clearly abuse and is doing psychological damage to that kid!

  3. Hello /u/vallivcas007,

Your post was removed for the following reason(s):

Your title did not include at least two ages/genders or was not formatted correctly

    Posts must:

include details about the involved parties including ages, genders, and length of relationship, and

request advice in real situations involving two or more people

We are enforcing the two rules listed above by making all titles use the following formatting:

[##X][##X], [## X][## X], or [##-X][##-X] where ## is the age and X is the gender (currently M, F, T, A, NB, FTM, MTF but more can be added). You can have more than two ages/genders listed, but you must have at least two. Here is an example:

[34NB][88-F] We are two people in an example post

Please resubmit with a corrected title.

  4. Engagement won’t upset the family. I just kind of want my bf to have this bonding opportunity with them since their time is limited

  5. As a (mostly) recovered spender, I understand your frustrations as the fiscally responsible spouse, but perhaps more realistic solutions then just a vague “cut back” might help the situation more. For example, I used to go to coffee shops everyday and drop $5-6 on coffee. Husband asked me to “cut back” so I went five times a week, which is still a lot, but I technically did “cut back.” What actually got me to cut back was improving the coffee situation at home so my choices weren’t crap coffee and fancy outside coffee. Doesn’t have to be expensive either; a French press is around $25, a grinder around $20, and a month’s supply of decent coffee around $20-30/month. Cutting back on fast food is easier when you have meals planned out. My husband and I rotated cooking nights and made it fun by challenging each other to make different dishes.

Buying unnecessary things was harder. The best way we we’ve found is to separate our disposable income. I can’t spend more than what I have as personal money, and the joint account was off-limits to any personal spending. Another thing we did was to get me to buy household necessities to satisfy that shopping urge. I got really into finding sales and promos, which ended up saving us money too. Sometimes I got gift cards as promos, and those were mine to use as a reward for saving money.

Good luck to both of you, I know it isn’t easy!
