OP, get your friend on here. We need to have a talk about the meaning of words and her obvious insecurities about the age difference with her fiancé.
You're leaving out that the dad was basically forced by OP's mom to abandon his daughter to save his marriage. The Dad probably felt guilt after the daughter reappeared and wants to try to make amends somehow.
