I came into this thinking it was going to be a narcissistic MIL situation, but nope, this obviously comes from your wife’s trauma of losing her father tragically at a young age. Tell her that your child is going to have a relationship with your mom, even if she gains all 275 lbs back, and that she needs to get some therapy (okay, maybe be more compassionately honest about it, your wife is pregnant and in mom mode, but you get my point). Seriously, if you two divorce over this, you will get 50% custody and can include your mom as much as you want during the time you have your child. That’s how ridiculous your wife is being. This isn’t an issue of safety or health or sanity.
