This is such an ignorant thing to comment – as a 20 year old who had a degree and career at 18, this just isn’t realistic for 90% of people.
I think a spreadsheet would completely make sense if they were already pooling/budgeting together. I find it a red flag/lack of awareness if my partner is that oblivious to my finances and can only understand with an excel doc. I mean OP is switching careers and going back to school so it shouldn't be shocking that they don't want to constantly go out/order out and their partner could have done better to avoid her feeling this way to begin with by just being aware of her situation outside of his wants.
